“Gratitude” by Jiwan Shakti Kaur

“Gratitude” by Jiwan Shakti Kaur

“The attitude of gratitude is the highest way of living, and is the biggest truth, highest truth.”  Yogi Bhajan – 8/30/91

I’d like to share with you something that has changed my life: gratitude. Ever know someone who never seems happy no matter what is going on in their life? No matter how abundant and blessed their life seems to others they are driven by emptiness, restlessness and are always looking for a way to fill the void they are experiencing. Ever feel this way yourself? How we feel about our life is based on our perception of our reality. Having gratitude for what is in our life right now and seeing the blessings that are here in this moment have a very powerful impact on how our mind perceives our reality. It also shifts our energies and what we attract. We are entering a time of year that is traditionally a time for counting our blessings and being thankful. This can be wonderful but can also be a very difficult time for many people related to the perceived pressures and expectations. Why wait for a holiday to have gratitude when you could go through your day with the grace that comes from an attitude of gratitude? We all know of people who have so much and yet are so very unhappy. It seems like a cultural epidemic. It’s always something and it is never enough. Once they have achieved, conquered, or obtained whatever it is they want they are still unhappy, still restless and will be happy only when….. This time never seems to manifests for them. And then we know of people who in the face of scarcity or adversity have a smile on their face and are kind, content and feel very blessed and happy. Why are they happy when someone who seems to have so much more is so miserable? Gratitude and Attitude. Two people could have the same life and one could feel amazingly blessed and the other miserable depending on their perception and attitude. You see, we get to decide. It’s our choice.

Gratitude is a very sacred experience. To feel deep gratitude from your heart connects you with your higher self and connects you to the divine. It is very expansive and elevating, opening your heart and filling it with love. When is the last time you felt deep gratitude for the blessings in your life? I invite you to develop a daily practice of gratitude: to be conscious of the blessings in your life, to express deep gratitude from your heart and experience the abundance and blessings of this practice.

“If you just feel happy for what you have, have an attitude of gratitude, and be grateful, then it will come true, you will be great and you will be full.” Yogi Bhajan – 3/15/98

“The happiness in life lies in gratitude, and the way to prosperity, to happiness, to life, to love, to all items in life, is in gratitude, not in being great. Doesn’t matter how much you try, you can never be great if you do not have an attitude of gratitude, it is basic.” Yogi Bhajan – 9/01/91
