The desert sun sucks away the moisture of sleepy hibernation,
climbing into mountains capped with snow dust,
around sharp corners, rocks weathered by forces unknown
to the human laws of gravity,
The weight, a force unmeasured by knowing,
caring, loving, being human.
Showing up in all forms,
in all the ways we are comfortable
or uncomfortable
in the flesh and bone, we inhabit.
A brief shedding of the outer world.
We are enveloped by stars!
Oak, yucca, and pine.
A flock of perfectly camouflaged turkeys and
a family of curious deer.
The coatimundi waits for an empty moment to drink the water
instilled with devotion, prayer, and wah-he-guru.
All should drink from such waters!
Away-to play. Hard work, rewarding work, necessary work,
healing the inside, one dusty step at a time.
Hoodoos in heaven,
Our true spirit’s shine.
Our hearts ache for the history that lies abandoned by time,
but not forgotten!
Their faces still in rock pillars
guarding the secrets of the deepest canyons,
Speaking to us of the inner workings of Gaia,
the skin and nails of her shedding
past millions of years of exposed fingers and hands
who are forever reaching skyward daring wind or sweet tremble to topple them to dust.
We will not forget! Mother!
We will carry your teachings into the world.
One at a time, whispered in each act of love.
I am humbled
and carry the light with each dish, and herb.
Each moment of silence, eating and sharing a meal,
A family of wild hearts
Remembering to breathe
And not choke on tears of joy
